Climate Change

Climate change is considered one of the most dangerous and valuable 21st century phenomenon by OPRD in totality.
The impact of Climate change is felt everyone and hence there is need to
minimize activities that leads to climate change especially those contributed by human beings.
Therefore OPRD strive to participate by planting trees, managing soil erosion, charcoal burning and reduction of the greenhouse gasses emission carrying out research work on the same among other activities. As these will see that reduction. Climate change has increased the frequency and magnitude of extreme weather events in South Sudan that have led to loss of lives, diminished livelihoods, reduced crop and livestock production, and damaged infrastructure, among other adverse impacts. An example is the torrential rains and severe flooding from March to May 2020 that devastated communities that were already struggling to recover from a prolonged drought.
Climate change is likely to negatively impact South Sudan’s future development and Droughts are typically large-scale disasters in South Sudan destroying livelihoods, triggering local conflicts over scarce resources, and eroding the ability of communities to cope.
